Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (3/5) v Watford (5/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Sunday 23rd February 2020, Kick-off 2 PM

Where: Old Trafford

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United host Watford at Old Trafford, in a game that could have big meaning in the race for the top-four and the fight for survival the Premier League.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have been infuriatingly inconsistent of late in the Premier League. The home side recorded a 2-0 win at Chelsea last time out in the English top-flight, which ended a three-game winless run in the league.

Despite their recent inconsistent league form, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team head into the latest round of top-flight games just three points outside the Premier League’s top-four.

United’s recent underwhelming home form has not aided the Red Devils chances of sealing a Champions League spot, as they have won just two of their last five league games at Old Trafford. However, on the flip-side, they have also suffered just one defeat in 11 Premier League matches on home soil.

United have failed to score in their last two home games in the English top-flight against Burnley and Wolves. Solskjaer’s team will be hoping for a better performance in front of goal in this clash.

Watford

The revival started by the arrival of Nigel Pearson as Hornets boss seems to have now died down. The visitors head into this potentially tough clash on the back of a four-game winless run in the Premier League. Last time out, the Hornets drew 1-1 with Brighton a bottom of the table scrap.

The draw against the Seagulls means that Watford are still only one point from safety, despite their poor recent run of form in the Premier League.

One of the main reasons the Hornets are struggling is a lack of goals scored, as only Crystal Palace have scored fewer goals than the Hornets this season in the English top-flight. The fact Troy Deeney is their top league goalscorer with just five goals illustrates their problems in front of goal.

Watford have been poor travellers of late, winning just once in their last seven away games in the Premier League. In fact, the Hornets have won just twice in 14 away games in the English top-flight. Defensive problems have plagued the Hornets on their travels in the league, as they have kept just two clean sheets in their last 19 away games.

Conclusion

Manchester United are just so unpredictable at the minute. You just never know what you are going to get from Solskjaer’s team. However, we are backing the Red Devils to record a narrow victory in this clash. We are also backing Anthony Martial to score at any time, as he is United’s biggest attacking threat, some would say only attacking threat too.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 3/5 and/or Anthony Martial to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
