Prediction and odds for the game: Torpedo Zhodino (8/13) v Smolevichi (5/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Friday, 29th May 2020, Kick-off 16:00

Where: The Stadyen Tarpeda

On Friday afternoon, Torpedo Zhodino host Smolevichi at the Stadyen Tarpeda, as the home side look to make up ground on leaders BATE at the top of the Belarus Premier League.

Torpedo Zhodino

The home side are enjoying a good campaign so far, as they are third in the table, four points behind league leaders BATE Borisov. A win in this clash would keep Torpedo in touch with the former dominant force of the Belarussian game. A 3-1 defeat at Neman Grodno last time out ended a six-game unbeaten run for Torpedo in the Belarusian top-flight. The home side will be keen to get straight back to winning ways against Friday’s opponents.

Torpedo’s early-season games in the top-flight were relatively low-scoring affairs. However, that tide has turned of late, as three of their last four league matches have produced over 3.5 goals.

The home side has a decent recent home record in the Belarus top-flight, as they are unbeaten in four outings, having recorded three wins in the process. Their recent strong home form has been built on solid defensive foundations, as they have conceded just once in their last three home games in the Premier League.

Smolevichi

The visitors have made a woeful start to the new league campaign. The visitors have picked up a measly four points from their first nine league games of the season. They have failed to win any of their matches during the current campaign. In fact, Smolevichi have failed to win any of their previous 17 matches in the Belarus top-flight dating back to their last spell in 2018.

Their most recent poor results have been due to generous defending, as the visitors have conceded at least twice in three of their last four league outings. Not only have Smolevichi been poor defensively, but they have also been poor going forward too, as no team in the Premier League has scored fewer goals than the visitors tally of six goals this season.

Needless to say, Smolevichi do not have a great recent away record in the Belarus top-flight. They have failed to win in eight league matches away from home. However, five of their last six league matches on their travels have finished all-square. Their recent away games have not been the most enthralling when it has come to goals scored, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last six matches on their travels.

Conclusion

The home team certainly head into this game in the better form and we are backing Torpedo to record a victory that will keep them right on the tail of league leaders BATE Borisov. We are also backing under 2.5 goals scored, as Torpedo’s recent home games have been low-scoring, as have Smolevichi’s recent away matches.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 8/13 and/or under 2.5 goals scored 8/13. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
