Barcelona will attempt to get their La Liga title push back up and running as they prepare to take on Mallorca in their return fixture.

Mallorca

In the wake of La Liga resuming, many fans are wondering how their own club is going to react to the time off. When it comes to Mallorca, it’s safe to say that they need to come firing out of the blocks as their battle to stay in the top flight of Spanish football continues. They’ve proven that they’re capable of winning games in this league, but grinding out positive results – whether it be edging out a draw or staying tight defensively – seems to be where they struggle.

Prior to the lockdown, Mallorca couldn’t really find the consistency they were searching for in the league. They suffered back to back 1-0 losses against Valladolid at the start of February, but managed to bounce back with a 1-0 win over Alaves. They then engaged in a 3-3 classic with Real Betis before a 1-0 defeat to Getafe, but in their last game before the league was suspended, they edged past Eibar in a huge 2-1 triumph.

Barcelona

They may be leading the title race, but Real Madrid are snapping at the heels of Barca right now and it’s not hard to get excited about that. The relentless nature of these two clubs means that we should be in for one hell of an end to the campaign, and with it being pretty clear that one of the two will lift the title when it’s all said and done, it makes the first few games after the restart absolutely vital. Whether or not Barca can get off to a quick start, though, remains to be seen.

While winning so often comes naturally to Barca, they were limping over the finish line when La Liga was suspended. They did register three wins in a row against Real Betis, Getafe and Eibar in early February, but they proceeded to draw 1-1 with Napoli in the Champions League before losing 2-0 to rivals Real Madrid in the league. Thankfully for them, they did restore their advantage at the top of the table with a 1-0 win against Real Sociedad.

Conclusion

Mallorca fans will be well aware of the fact that they are the major underdogs here, but instead of throwing caution to the wind, they still need to try and be conservative. Goal difference could prove to be a big factor in whether or not they’re able to maintain their status in La Liga, and as such, they need to keep Barca at bay as much as they can. We don’t think that strategy is going to go all too well for them, unfortunately, and Barca will reaffirm their status as the leading title contenders with a comfortable win.

We do believe the two sides will combine for at least three goals, which is why we’re going to back the over 2.5 goals market.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 2/7 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/9. (All odds are taken from bet365).
