The current transfer window has been a quiet one for most English clubs. There have been some completed moves, but with such a short break between the seasons and international games, it has been a difficult market. However, one team that has strengthened this summer have been Chelsea, who seem to be buying every player in sight.

Chelsea already brought in quality

The Blues have certainly wasted little time in strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. Frank Lampard’s club secured the signature of Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech earlier this year, while German forward Timo Werner followed from RB Leipzig.

More recently Chelsea completed the signing of Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell for a fee of around £50million and snapped up highly-rated young defender Malang Sarr on a free transfer after his exit from Nice.

The players who have joined the club from south west London have no doubt strengthened the Blues squad. Ziyech has shone consistently for Ajax in both the Eredivisie, while Werner’s goal tally in the Bundesliga was only bettered by the prolific Bayern Munich poacher. Chilwell is England’s first-choice left-back and has established a reputation as one of the best players in his position in the English top-flight.

All three players will improve Lampard’s team, while Sarr is expected to spend next season out on-loan to gain valuable first-team experience.

Close to signing

As if the business that Chelsea have completed so far has not been good enough, the Blues are also reportedly close to signing Thiago Silva and are still in talks over the transfer of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Silva, who captained PSG to the Champions League final, is set for a medical ahead of completing a free transfer. The 35-year-old could add some much-needed experience to the centre of the Blues defence.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are still reportedly in negotiations to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Havertz. The team from the English capital are believed to be confident of tying up the signing of the highly-rated Germany international before the start of the season. The signing of the youngster would be a coup for the Blues.

Could their business be enough to win the Premier League title?

The current transfer windows activity has Chelsea fans dreaming of challenging for the Premier League title again this season. Last season, the Blues finished in fourth place in the English top-flight.

It would be a massive task for Frank Lampard to go from top-four contenders to title challengers. Reigning champions Liverpool and former champions Manchester City will still be the main title contenders. Meanwhile, Manchester United will also they are capable of mounting a stronger title challenge next season.

However, Chelsea will feel that given their arrivals and potential arrivals, that they could mount a realistic challenge this season. They have added quality and look to have a much better squad than last season. However, only time will tell if the Blues have what it takes to mount a real challenge for the English top-flight this season.
