Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (evens) v Arsenal (11/4)

We are backing the home win

When: Sunday, 6th December 2020, Kick-off 16:30

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham and Arsenal go head-to-head in a massive north London derby in the Premier League.

Tottenham

Jose Mourinho’s team have established themselves as one of the favourites to win the Premier League with their early season form. The home side are currently top of the English top-flight table, but only ahead of second-place Liverpool because of superior goal difference.

Spurs are nine games unbeaten in the Premier League since their opening gameweek defeat by Everton. A goalless draw at another London rival Chelsea last time out continued their positive momentum. The game also saw Tottenham’s defensive improvement continue, as Mourinho’s team kept their fourth clean sheet in five league games, having conceded just once.

Tottenham have a decent home record since the Everton loss, as they are now four league games undefeated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They have enjoyed back-to-back home wins in the Premier League over Brighton and Manchester City, while scoring at least two goals in their last three home matches in the English top-flight.

Spurs have also been difficult to beat on home soil of late, losing just one of their previous ten home games in the Premier League.

Arsenal

The visitors are enduring a difficult top-flight campaign and currently find themselves 14th place in the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta’s team have won just two of their previous eight league matches, having suffered five defeats. Last time out in the Premier League, Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Wolves. They followed the defeat up with a 4-1 win over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League. Their European campaign has been the highlight of the Gunners season so far.

Although they have not been great at either end of the pitch this season, the visitors have struggled for goals especially of late, scoring just once in their last three league outings. Arteta’s team have found top-flight opponents more difficult than those in the Europa League.

The Gunners have been poor of late on their travels in the English top-flight, having won just one of their previous four away games. However, one positive for the visitors is that they have kept clean sheets in their two previous away games in the Premier League.

Conclusion

The old adage of form going out of the window in derbies can often be correct. However, for us, the home win looks the most likely outcome, although we do believe this will be a relatively tight encounter. Arsenal have won on just one of their last 12 visits to Spurs in the Premier League. It’s hard to see that record improving in this clash.

The other bet we recommend is for Heung-Min Son to be an anytime goalscorer, as the South Korean international has scored nine goals in as many league appearances. He also seems to up his game in the big games.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at evens and/or Heung-Min-Son to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
