Prediction & odds for the game: Manchester City (1/11) v West Brom (19/1) – ST is backing the home win

When: Tuesday, 15th December @ 8pm K.O

Where: Etihad Stadium

Manchester City will attempt to keep their Premier League title push going this week as they prepare to host relegation strugglers West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester City

We don’t expect Manchester City fans to be overly confident about the rest of the campaign given some of the issues they’ve had, but with Pep Guardiola committing his future to the club and Lionel Messi potentially being on the horizon, there are plenty of reasons to feel optimistic. They’re finally beginning to rebuild some of the momentum they had lost, and the idea of them winning back the title from Liverpool no longer seems all that ludicrous.

A narrow 1-0 win over Olympiakos back in late November gave City some breathing space, and from there, they haven’t really looked back with a string of clean sheets to their name. They battered Burnley 5-0, drew with Porto 0-0 and eased to nice wins over Fulham and Marseille before a dull 0-0 draw in the Manchester derby.

West Brom

Every time West Brom take a step forward, it’s quickly followed by two steps in the opposite direction. They have a few aces up their sleeve but they aren’t putting out the quality of performances they really need to push on and avoid a relegation battle. Slaven Bilic’s position as manager is already being called into question and if the club does decide to dismiss him, the question then turns to who they’ll bring in as a replacement.

On November 28th, the Baggies finally seemed to get their season going with a narrow 1-0 win over Sheffield United – only to subsequently lose two winnable games against Crystal Palace and Newcastle. Prior to the victory they failed to score in a trio of November games as they were beaten by Tottenham, Manchester United and, worst of all, Fulham.

Conclusion

Sometimes you have to go with the obvious option with a game like this, and that’s what we’re going to do by formally predicting that Manchester City will ease to victory over West Bromwich Albion here. They just have so many strong options that they can use to hurt the Baggies with, and while they have had their fair share of slip-ups throughout the season, Pep knows that there’s an opening at the top of the league and he’ll be determined for City to fill it.

Our scoreline prediction is going to be 4-1 City, which is why we’re backing the over 2.5 goals bracket.

Verdict: Back the home at odds of 1/11 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 3/10 (All odds are taken from bet365).
