Our picks for fantasy football gameweek 14 season 2020/21

|

The games are coming at us thick and fast in the Premier League and the pace will only increase over the festive period. We are now in gameweek 14 after mixed returns in gameweek 13 from our picks. Here are our picks for gameweek 14:

Nick Pope (Burnley, £5.4m)

The England international became something of an FPL favourite amongst players a few seasons ago. However, last season his campaign was hampered by injuries.

This season Pope has missed just one Premier League game. His early season form was highly questionable, but in recent weeks he has turned things around. In fact, he has now claimed four clean sheets in his last five starts for the Clarets.

In keeping those clean sheets Pope picked up at least two bonus points in all four games. Sean Dyche’s team seem to be back to their defensive best. The team from Lancashire also have a relatively friendly looking fixture list in the near future, starting with Wolves on Monday night.

The visitors have been great in attack of late after star striker Raul Jimenez sustained a head injury at Arsenal. Pope could be a season keeper if you want to upgrade from a budget option.

Mason Holgate (Everton, £4.8m)

Suddenly Everton are looking strong in defence, with Holgate filling in at right-back. The 24-year-old is not a raiding full-back, but he is a threat in the air from set-pieces. He scored the Toffees second goal against Leicester to seal maximum points.

It is at the other end of the pitch that he could pick up a points haul with Carlo Ancelotti’s team facing struggling Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday evening. With the defensive improvement and the Gunners struggling for confidence, it could be a profitable day for Holgate and his team.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton, £6.8m)

The Icelandic international has not been a regular in the Everton team since the arrival of Colombian superstar James Rodriguez. However, the former Tottenham star has started the last two games and looks like a viable option this week.

Sigurdsson scored against Chelsea in the Toffees last home game and produced a solid display in Everton’s win at Leicester last time out. He has a lot of appeal based on not only his mid-range price but also the fact that with Lucas Digne out the team, he gets to take set-pieces, including penalty kicks.

The home game against Arsenal before a trip to bottom of the table Sheffield United means the attacking midfielder has a schedule with huge appeal.

Callum Wilson (Newcastle, £6.6m)

The Newcastle forward has in the past been considered a player who produces decent hauls for FPL bosses. Last season he struggled at Bournemouth, but it seems he has rediscovered his magic tough this season in the north east.

The former Cherries star has scored seven times and produced four assists this season in a Newcastle team that doesn’t score a lot of goals. Wilson has scored once and produced two assists in his last three league matches. A home game against struggling Fulham this weekend could prove profitable for FPL owners.
