The Premier League once again produced another day of entertaining action from start to finish on Saturday, and while Manchester City did manage to secure a big win, it feels like the main story stems from Merseyside.

It’s safe to say that Liverpool and Everton have had their fair share of issues in recent months, whether it be through dreadful performances or injuries. Either way, it’s starting to look like they’re both putting it all together – and if you don’t believe us, take one look at the Premier League table. Liverpool are top of the pile as you’d probably expect them to be whereas Everton, for the time being, are their closest challengers as they sit five points back in second place.

You can continue to take a look at some of the other fixtures that are coming up by visiting the betting page, but in the here and now, we want to take a look at the success both clubs had yesterday.

Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool

The funny thing about this game is that Crystal Palace were actually having some real moments of joy in the first 45 minutes, to the point where it seemed as if this would be a pretty close fixture – as it has been for so many years now. Alas, when you’re in the scoring mood, a lot of things are going to fall your way. For Liverpool, things fell their way on seven separate occasions.

Everyone from Minamino to Salah and beyond just stepped up when it really mattered and that’s such a huge statement for Jurgen Klopp’s men to make. It’s no overwhelming secret that their injury issues have really harmed their title push up to this point, and yet, they’ll go into Christmas at the top of the pile. Given everything that’s happened, that has to be viewed as a really impressive achievement.

Everton 2-1 Arsenal

Arsenal needed a big performance at Goodison Park and they just didn’t get it, but that isn’t only because of their own shortcomings. It’s also because Everton controlled the narrative and set themselves up for a really bright day at the office, which is what momentum can do for you at this level. They’d already beaten Chelsea and Leicester, and Carlo Ancelotti knew exactly what kind of style was going to put the Gunners to the sword.

The story is largely going to be the future of Mikel Arteta and we can understand why the media wants to put the attention on that. Still, we shouldn’t be trying to take away from what the Toffees have accomplished. They have a long way to go before they are bonafide top four contenders and we aren’t pretending like that’s not the case, but you have to allow their supporters the chance to get a bit excited over their prospects. We are in the midst of what could only be described as a very unpredictable season of Premier League football, and it isn’t that ‘out there’ to think Everton could capitalise on that.
