Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (13/10) vs RB Leipzig (19/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5

When: Wednesday, 10th March 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Puskas Arena

On Wednesday night, Liverpool will look to seal their place in the Champions League quarter-final, as the Reds face RB Leipzig at the Puskas Arena. Jurgen Klopp’s team are 2-0 up from the first leg and will want to finish the job in Budapest.

Liverpool

The Reds are experiencing a nightmare campaign, as on Sunday they suffered their sixth straight home defeat in the Premier League, as Fulham left Anfield with a 1-0 victory. The defeat leaves Liverpool four points behind Chelsea, who currently occupy fourth place.

The defeat against the Cottagers means that the home side has now lost three of their last four matches since they recorded a 2-0 win over Leipzig in the first leg. The win was a rare good performance from the Merseysider’s in recent months.

The Champions League is now Liverpool’s only hope of salvaging anything positive from this disaster of a campaign. The 2019 European champions still have a decent record in European football’s biggest competition, as they have won five of their last seven matches. The Reds recent home record in the Champions League is an inconsistent one, as they have won just two of their last five European games at Anfield. However, with the game being played on a neutral ground that record matters little.

It seems that Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has prioritised winning the Champions League, as the German put out a weakened starting line-up against Fulham last time out.

RB Leipzig

The German team will be ruing some missed chances from the first leg and will still believe that they have a chance of overturning the first-leg deficit. The fact that Julian Nagelsmann’s team have won eight of their last games in all competitions will add to their belief that the tie is not yet over. An impressive 3-0 victory at Freiburg at the weekend means that Die Roten Bullen have won all four of their games since the first leg.

Despite their high level of consistency in the Bundesliga of late, Leipzig have been wildly inconsistent in the Champions League, as they have won three and lost three of their last six matches in Europe’s elite competition.

That inconsistency also goes for the visitors European results on their travels in the competition, as they have won just two of their previous five away games in the Champions League.

Conclusion

Judging by the two teams recent form, the visitors should be heading into this clash as favourites to win the game. However, as the Reds showed in the first leg, they have a habit of getting up for European games. The visitors are a good team in decent form, but we are only backing the drawn just because of the home sides strange mystical power they seem to have in this competition. Liverpool are struggling for goals on home soil, so we are also backing under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
