Manchester City will try and seal their place in the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League when they meet Borussia Monchengladbach tomorrow.

Manchester City

Manchester City are the champions-elect in the Premier League, they’re the favourites to win the Champions League and they’re also just a few wins away from winning both the FA Cup and League Cup. When you add all of that up it soon becomes obvious that we’re looking at one of the most dominant clubs in the history of world football. That may sound a bit over the top, but we’ll just see how much silverware they collect by the time we reach the summer.

The first leg win back on February 24th was followed up by victories against West Ham and Wolves, and while their 21-game winning streak did come to an end against Manchester United, they bounced straight back by battering Southampton and Fulham.

Borussia Monchengladbach

It’s been quite a dramatic decline for Gladbach in recent weeks with the Champions League being the only thing they’ve really got left to fight for this season. Their league form is dipping, they can’t buy a win and they just seem to be on the beach already. There’s a good chance they’ll come out swinging in an attempt to go after City and pour out what’s left in their campaign, but the odds aren’t in their favour and there are plenty of good reasons for that.

Another day, another defeat seems to be the general direction of travel for this Borussia Monchengladbach side. Over the course of the last few weeks they’ve been beaten by Mainz, Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Augsburg – all across three different competitions.

Conclusion

City hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg and Pep Guardiola will be feeling as confident as ever before that they can push past Monchengladbach in this second leg. They’ll probably even be able to rest a few players which is always a good sign as they sit back and wait for the inevitable pressure that’ll come from the Germans. We think they’re going to hit their opponents on the counter and edge out another narrow win, confirming another comfortable aggregate success.

We think the scoreline on the night is going to be 1-0 City, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket. It isn’t going to be the most entertaining game we’ve ever seen but it should give a few fringe players a rare chance to shine.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 2/9 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4 (All odds are taken from bet365).
