Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (23/10) vs Tottenham (6/5)

We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5

When: Friday, 16th April 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Goodison Park

On Friday night, Everton and Tottenham meet at Goodison Park, as both teams look to boost their hopes of European football for next season.

Everton

The Toffees hopes of landing a top-six spot in the Premier League this season have been hit by poor form and injuries of late. A 0-0 draw at Brighton last time out means that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has failed to win in their last five matches in all competitions, including exiting the FA Cup at the quarter-finals stage.

The recent poor run of league form has seen the Merseysider’s fall seven points behind fourth-place West Ham and four points behind city rivals Liverpool who occupy sixth-place. However, the home side could leapfrog the visitors to seventh place with a victory in this clash.

Everton’s recent form on home soil in the Premier League has been poor, as they have won just one of their last eight league matches at Goodison Park.

One positive for the injury-ravaged Toffees is that Allan, Andre Gomes, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could all return to the squad. The Toffees had just one senior player on the substitutes bench last time out in Alex Iwobi. They should be able to field a strong team in this clash.

Tottenham

Jose Mourinho’s team have hit a poor run of form that has sent the team from north London tumbling down the table to seventh place. Their hopes of landing a Champions League spot this season do not look great. A 3-1 home defeat by Manchester United last time out means that Spurs have won just once in their last five games in all competitions, four of which have been in the Premier League.

Tottenham have struggled defensively of late in the English top-flight, having conceded at least two goals in three of their last four league matches. Boss Mourinho is renowned for his teams’ defensive discipline, so he will be disappointed with his team’s recent poor displays at the back.

Although Spurs have taken four points from their last two away games in the English top-flight, they have won just three of their previous 12 matches on their travels. Their defensive problems have been on full display on the road, as the visitors have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six matches away from home.

Conclusion

Both teams need a victory, as neither has covered themselves in glory of late in the top-flight. The return of some of their senior players is a positive for the Toffees, especially top goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Spurs have been so unconvincing of late, so we are backing this game to finish in a draw.

We don’t think this will be a highly attacking game, as Everton will likely sit back and attempt to hit the visitors on the break. With that in mind, we are also backing under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
