Prediction and odds for the game: Newcastle (13/5) vs Arsenal (Evens)

We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5

When: Sunday, 2nd May 2021, Kick-off 14:00

Where: St James Park

On Sunday afternoon, Newcastle host Arsenal at St James Park, as the home team looks to all but end their relegation worries in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle

The Magpies have moved closer to sealing their place in the Premier League for next season by some decent results in recent weeks. They are now nine points clear of the relegation zone with five top-flight games remaining this season.

Steve Bruce’s team are unbeaten in their last four top-flight outings and have lost just once in their last eight league games following a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Liverpool last time out.

The game broke a high-scoring trend of late for Newcastle in the Premier League, as their previous four games had all produced over 2.5 goals.

The team from the north east are unbeaten in their last five home games in the English top-flight. However, they have also won just two of their last ten league outings at St James Park.

One negative for the Magpies heading into this clash is that they have a poor recent record against the visitors, who have won 15 of the last 17 meetings between the two sides in all competitions.

Arsenal

The Gunners eggs are now all in the Europa League baskets, as the Mikel Arteta’s ten are in the limbo of tenth-place in the Premier League table. They would need a minor football miracle to finish in the European spots this season from the league.

Their best hope of qualifying for European action next season is winning the Europa League. However, they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Spanish outfit Villarreal in the first leg of their semi-final, so the tie now hangs in the balance.

Arsenal’s recent form in the Premier League has not been great, as a 1-0 home defeat by top-six-chasing Everton last time out means that they have won just once in five league outings.

The team from north London could have not been any more inconsistent than they have been on their travels of late in the Premier League. The visitors have won just two of their last six league games away from home. However, they are unbeaten in four away matches in the English top-flight.

Conclusion

Newcastle have not been in bad form of late. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been in mixed form of late and will have one eye on next weeks Europa League second leg against Villarreal. We are backing the draw, as we don’t believe either team has enough confidence to win it. The other bet we are recommending is under 2.5 goals scored. Newcastle have not been prolific this season, while Arsenal may preserve their best attacking for Thursday night.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
