Prediction and odds for the game: West Ham (6/5) vs Everton (11/5)

We are backing the home win

When: Sunday, 9th May 2021, Kick-off 16:30

Where: The London Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, West Ham host Everton at the London Stadium, as the home side look to enhance their chances of sealing a place in next season’s Champions League.

West Ham

The Hammers top-four challenge has stalled slightly of late because of a recent inconsistent run of form. Despite winning just three of their last seven league games, David Moyes team are still fifth-place in the Premier League table, three points adrift of fourth-place capital rivals Chelsea.

A 2-1 win at Burnley last time out kept the Irons in the top-four race. The result continues West Ham’s recent trend for high-scoring games, as there have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings in the Premier League. The fact they have scored at least two goals in five of those six games has been a major factor.

West Ham’s recent home form has been decent in the Premier League, as they have won four of their previous six games on home soil. A 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in their last home match ended a five-game unbeaten run at the London Stadium for the home side, including four wins.

Everton

The Toffees Premier League campaign seems to be tailing off after promising form earlier in the campaign. Carlo Ancelotti’s team are eighth-place in the table, four points adrift of top-six Tottenham in the table, with a game in hand on the team from north London.

They may not seem far off the European spots, but their recent form in the English top-flight suggests that the Merseysider’s are unlikely to succeed in their objective of finishing in the league’s top-six this season. A 2-1 home reverse by Aston Villa last time out means that the visitors have won just one of their last seven matches in the English top-flight.

One redeeming feature for Everton in recent months has been their away form, as they have lost just one of their last 12 away matches, recording eight wins on their travels in the process. Only champions-elect Manchester City have won more away matches in the English top-flight this season.

Another positive for Everton is that they have lost just once in their last 14 trips to West Ham in all competitions.

Conclusion

West Ham are still well in the race for the top-four and are generally strong on home soil. Everton have been in poor form of late, but they are a dangerous team on their travels. We are backing the home side to overcome their stubborn visitors. The other bet we recommend is for over 2.5 goals scored, as West Ham are prolific on home soil, while the Toffees also have a big attacking threat in the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 6/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet356).
