Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester City (17/20) vs Chelsea (7/2)

We are backing the Manchester City win

When: Saturday, 29th May 2021, kick-off 20:00

Where: The Estadio Do Dragao

On Saturday night, Manchester City and Chelsea clash at the Estadio Do Dragao in Porto, in what promises to be a fascinating Champions League final.

Manchester City

After a slightly mixed start to their campaign, Manchester City stormed back into form to win the Carabao Cup and the Premier League title. However, it is the Champions League that is the holy grail for the Citizens. Winning Europe’s elite competition would prove to be icing on an already sweet cake for the men from Manchester.

Pep Guardiola’s team have a record fit for European champions, as they head into this game undefeated in their last 13 European outings, having recorded 12 wins on the run. City have also scored at least two goals in 11 of their undefeated matches in the competition. At the other end of the pitch, City have also kept clean sheets in eight of their previous 11 European matches.

Guardiola has a fully-fit squad to choose from after Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan recovered from a slight problem.

Chelsea

The Blues have certainly enjoyed an eventful campaign. They sealed a top-four spot, while also losing the FA Cup final 1-0 to Leicester. A promising start to life as head coach at the south west London club has slowed down slightly in recent weeks, as they head into this clash on the back of three losses in their last four games of the campaign.

However, as you would expect for any Champions League finalist, Chelsea have a pretty good recent record in the competition. The Blues have suffered just one defeat in their previous 12 matches in the competition while recording eight wins.

Their recent defensive record in the Champions League has been good, as they have kept four clean sheets in their last six matches in the competition. Their recent matches in European football’s primary competition have been low-scoring affairs, as their last seven matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

Chelsea have had the recent psychological edge on City, as they have won the last two meetings between the two teams, both since Tuchel took over as head coach. It will be a major challenge for the Blues to complete a third straight win over the Citizens.

Despite doubts over the fitness of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and midfielder N’Golo Kante, both are expected to feature for the Blues.

Conclusion

Neither team finished the Premier League campaign in great form. However, City lull was likely because they have had the English title sewn up for months. Chelsea’s dip was slightly more concerning, as it came close to costing them a place in next seasons Champions League.

We are backing Manchester City to come out on top, as their players will likely be well-rested and raring to go. Chelsea’s players have looked slightly fatigued in recent matches. The other bet we recommend is over 2.5 goals scored, as we think it will be an entertaining final.

Verdict: We are backing the Manchester City win at odds of 17/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
