Prediction and odds for the game: Inter (11/8) vs Real Madrid (19/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5

When: Wednesday, 15th September 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

On Wednesday night, Italian champions Inter host Real Madrid at the Giuseppe Meazza in gameweek one of Group D in the Champions League.

Inter

The Nerazzurri have started life under new head coach Simone Inzaghi in a promising fashion. The men from Milan are unbeaten in their opening three matches in Serie A, having recorded two wins and a draw. Despite the summer departure of last season’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku, the home team has also scored at least two goals in each of their three league outings this season.

Inter’s recent record in the Champions League is not a positive one, as they have won just one of their last seven matches in Europe’s elite competition. That poor run of results includes home and away defeats to Wednesday’s night’s opponents in last season’s competition. In fact, the Nerazzurri have lost four of the last five meetings with the Spanish giants.

The Nerazzurri have failed to win any of their last four European games on home soil. They have also conceded at least two goals in three of the previous four matches on their travels in the Champions League.

Real Madrid

Like Inter, Real Madrid have made a good start under a new head coach. However, boss Carlo Ancelotti is not such a good head coach, as he is now in his second stint as Los Blancos boss. The team from the Spanish capital are unbeaten in four La Liga games this season, having recorded three wins and a draw. Los Blancos have been high-scoring in Ancelotti’s second stint in charge, as they have scored at least three goals in three of their four games in La Liga.

Real Madrid are of course the most successful club in the Champions League, having won the trophy on 13 occasions. However, the visitors head into this game on the back of a three-game winless run in Europe’s elite competition. A 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the semi-final second leg saw Los Blancos exit the competition last season.

The visitors have won just one of their last four away matches in the Champions League. The fact that they have managed to score just once in that run is likely a factor in their results.

Conclusion

Both teams have enjoyed promising starts to their domestic campaigns. It is a difficult game to judge, but we are backing the game to finish in a draw. However, we do think it is will be an entertaining encounter, as both teams have been potent in front of goal. Therefore, the other recommendation we make is to back over 2.5 goals scored.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
