Prediction and odds for the game: Spain (19/10) vs France (29/20)

We are backing the Spain win

When: Sunday 10 October 2021, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Giuseppe Meazza

On Sunday night, Spain host France at the Giuseppe Meazza in the final of the Nations League, in what should be a fascinating clash between two of Europe’s top teams meet.

Spain

Luis Enrique’s team recorded a 2-1 win over Italy last time out, ending the European champions long unbeaten run in the international game. The win was La Roja Furia’s third straight international victory. The game also saw Spain score at least two goals for a third straight outing.

Versatile Manchester City forward Ferran Torres has been in prolific form of late for his national team, scoring four goals in his last three international appearances. His form has made the debate about Enrique’s team having a natural number nine irrelevant.

Spain have been difficult to beat of late in the international game, as they have lost just one of their previous 18 matches.

Spain have a fitness doubt over Torres after he went off injured during the win over Italy. Barcelona wonderkid Gavi started the Italy game and is set to continue alongside the experienced pair of Koke and Sergio Busquets. Sergio Reguilon is competing with Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso for a place at left-back.

France

Didier Deschamps team produced a poor first-half display in their 3-2 win over Belgium last time out. The world champions had to come back from two goals down to record the victory over Roberto Martinez’s team. The recovery was impressive, but the fact that they were two goals down in the first place was slightly concerning for the visitors.

The victory over the Red Devils means that Les Bleus are unbeaten in 15 games over 90 minutes, although they did suffer a penalty kick defeat against Switzerland at Euro 2020. In truth, though, their recent international form has been slightly unconvincing.

One facet of France’s game that has not been great of late has been their defence, as the world champions have kept just one clean sheet in their previous seven international outings. Spain’s fluid attack are likely to cause Les Bleus defence major headaches.

France have lost left-back Lucas Digne, due to a hamstring issue. That means that Lucas Hernandez will play as the left-back or left wing-back, depending on whether Deschamps decides to play four or three at the back. Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni could come into the starting line-up in place of Adrien Rabiot.

Conclusion

This is a difficult one to call, as both teams have quality players in their ranks. However, we fancy Spain to record a victory in a high-scoring encounter, as we feel that Enrique’s team is exciting and fresh and may just have the edge on France, who have been underwhelming at times of late.

Our Tips: We are backing the Spain win at odds of 19/10 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
