According to Sky Sports, Denmark international Christian Eriksen has agreed on a six-month deal with Premier League Brentford. The midfielder has completed all the required medical checks after suffering a cardiac arrest seven months ago during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland.

Fit to play once again

The incident saw Eriksen fitted with a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device. The device monitors the heartbeat monitors the heartbeat and delivers electric shocks, when needed, to restore a regular heart rhythm.

Unfortunately for Eriksen, he could not remain at former club Italian champions Inter, as players are not permitted to play in Serie A with the device. This led to the Nerazzurri and the midfielder agreeing to cancel his contract.

Eriksen has been working hard to keep fit and get back into shape in Switzerland before recently training with former club Ajax. It seems that the midfielder has done everything in his power to get back to playing the game he clearly loves. His comeback with be an inspirational one considering the severity of his situation in June.

A top midfielder

Christian Eriksen may have started his career at Ajax, but he really made his mark in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur. He spent six-and-half successful years at Spurs, where he produced 62 assists and scored 51 goals. No player produced more assists in the English top-flight between 2013 and his exit in 2020.

Eriksen was one of the best attacking midfielders in the English top-flight before his departure to Inter in January 2020. His spell in Milan produced mixed results, as he was in and out of the Inter team. He found some form just before the Euros and it looked like he would have a bright future in the world’s fashion capital.

However, fate produced a cruel twist in June, when he collapsed and had to receive life-saving treatment on that fateful day in Copenhagen.

Brentford could be an ideal new home for Eriksen

He may not have shown his best form for Inter but Brentford could very well be the ideal new home for the undoubtedly talented midfield star. He will be surrounded by his compatriots in West London, including head coach Thomas Frank and international teammates Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen.

Eriksen has stated that he feels in top shape physically and he will know what it takes for a player to play in the English top-flight. The short-term deal gives both sides time to assess each other. If the Danish international can get back to anything like the sort of form he showed at Tottenham, then Brentford have just got themselves a bargain.

Despite Eriksen’s declaration of fitness, there is no real way of knowing how he will fare until he starts training and starts playing games again. The ICD is unlikely to affect his performance or cause him any problems.

For most football lovers seeing Christian Eriksen on a football pitch once again will be an uplifting sight. We all wish you good luck for the future Christian and we are sure you still have plenty of football left in you at the top level of the game.
