Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (1/2) vs West Ham (11/2)

We are backing Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4

When: Sunday 24 April 2022, Kick-off 14:00

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea hosts West Ham at Stamford Bridge in a London derby that could have a big bearing on the who finishes in the European spots in the Premier League.

Chelsea

The Blues are in third place in the Premier League table, but they may be looking slightly nervously over their shoulders at the teams below them. The team from south west London are currently Tottenham and Arsenal in fourth and fifth place respectively in the table.

Chelsea suffered a home defeat in another capital derby against Arsenal last time out. The loss came on the back of three straight victories in all competitions.

The Blues’ usually strong home form has slipped of late in the English top-flight, as they have now won just two of their last seven Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel’s team has also suffered back-to-back home defeats in the English top-flight against Brentford and Arsenal.

One major positive for Chelsea is that they have a strong recent record against West Ham, losing just one of the previous 16 meetings with the Hammers.

West Ham

The visitor’s recent form, in general, has been inconsistent, as David Moyes’ team heads into this clash on the back of just one win in their last four matches. It could be argued that the Hammers league form has suffered due to their excellent run in the Europa League.

The visitors are still seventh-place in the Premier League table, though, two points adrift of the league’s top six. They are also five points adrift of the Champions League berths, although that gap may prove too big to bridge considering the competition to win a place in the Champions League next season.

West Ham has been poor travellers of late in the Premier League, as they have failed to win any of their last five away games in the English top-flight while suffering four defeats in the process.

The Hammers’ biggest problem on their travels has been their poor defensive displays, as David Moyes’ team has now conceded at least two goals in three of their last four away matches in the English top-flight.

Conclusion

Neither team can say that they are in outstanding form going into this clash. We expect this game to be a relatively close encounter, but feel that Chelsea will just sneak the win mainly due to West Ham’s habit of losing their away games. Our second recommendation is for Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer, as the Germany international has scored four goals in as many appearances for the Blues.

Our Tips: We are backing the Chelsea win at odds of 1/2 and/or Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
