In the Premier League’s early kick-off, Newcastle hosts title-chasing Liverpool in a game that could be massive for the visitors.

The Magpies have undergone an excellent transformation since the arrival of Eddie Howe as head coach. Incredibly after being relegation candidates for much of the opening months of the campaign, the team from the north east are now just nine points off the league’s European spots after a stellar run of league form.

Howe’s team are likely to run out of games to make Europe for next season but their recent run of form, including four straight league victories, has certainly made the mood far more positive on Tyneside.

One facet of Newcastle’s game that has improved majorly of late has been their home form, as the Magpies are unbeaten in eight Premier League matches at St. James’ Park, having recorded six straight home wins.

January signing Bruno Guimaraes has shone in recent top-flight outings, scoring three times in as many Premier League appearances.

Jurgen Klopp’s team picked up a 2-0 home win against Villarreal in the Champions League semi-final first leg last time out. The victory was the Reds’ fourth straight victory in all competitions.

The game also continued an attacking trend for Liverpool, who have now scored at least two goals in their last eight games in all competitions. The visitors have also been impressive at the other end of the pitch too, as they have kept three straight clean sheets.

Liverpool’s stellar recent form has kept them neck and neck with reigning champions Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title. A win in this clash would put the Reds two points clear of City, who faced Leeds in the evening kick-off.

In recent months, Jurgen Klopp’s team has been nearly impeccable in the Premier League, as they have won 12 of their last 13 matches in the English top-flight. The only blip was a 2-2 draw at champions Manchester City, which was hardly a terrible result.

Liverpool has unsurprisingly been strong on their travels of late in the Premier League, as they are unbeaten in six away matches in the English top-flight, having recorded four wins and two draws. They have also scored at least two goals in five of their last six home games in the league.

Newcastle could well test the visitors, as they head into this clash in high spirits following their recent good run of form. However, Liverpool has built up huge momentum of late in the English top-flight. We believe it could be enough to get them the win they need in the north east.

The away win offers little value though. Instead, we are backing Liverpool to be winning at half-time and full-time. We are also backing over 2.5 goals to be scored, as Liverpool always offers a big attacking threat, while Newcastle has improved in front of goal under Eddie Howe.

Our Tips: We are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time at odds of 6/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
