One of the biggest transfer stories of the Premier League may just have broken slightly early, as Manchester City have activated the release clause of £51.2m in the contract of Dortmund’s young superstar Erling Haaland. The deal is subject to the 21-year-old agreeing to personal terms, which is a formality after he has already completed a medical ahead of the move.
Haaland has the potential to be the complete forward
In the last few seasons, Haaland has become one of the most in-demand forwards in the world game. The youngster first came to light at Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. However, the Norwegian international’s game has gone from strength to strength since a move to Dortmund in the January transfer window of 2020.
The move to BVB has seen Haaland score an incredible 85 goals in 88 appearances for the German team. Despite his prolific goalscoring, Haaland is not only a big tap-in merchant, who just scores goals. His movement and unselfishness show signs that the young forward could well become the complete forward, as he seems to be able to do everything as a forward.
Manchester City will be an even better with a world-class forward
At this moment in time, Manchester City are the favourites to win the Premier League title. They have enjoyed another strong Premier League campaign and have looked like one of the best teams in Europe once again in the current season. However, the Citizens went out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage to Real Madrid and their holy grail will have to wait at least another season.
What could strengthen City’s team? Well, what head coach Pep Guardiola wanted last summer when the Catalan boss wanted to sign Tottenham forward Harry Kane. That bid for the England international obviously failed. Haaland is obviously a brilliant alternative to Kane. They are very different players, but both are top-class forwards.
The Norwegian will not come as short to gain possession as Kane. However, he has the potential to develop that part of his game under Guardiola, who has the ability to improve players majorly. No doubt his best trait is his ability to get into goalscoring positions. With the number of creative players in the City squad and the chances they create, Haaland is only likely to become even more prolific in front of goal.
A good move all around
Erling Haaland becoming a Manchester City player for next season seems to make sense. He is one of the top young players in the world game, who is signing for one of the most high-profile players. The transfer fee could well prove to be a bargain, especially in a world of crazy fees and deals.
Haaland is nowhere near his prime as a footballer. He could well represent Manchester City for another decade and become a folk hero to the Citizens fans.
