Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (8/15) vs West Ham (9/2)

We are backing Raheem sterling to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/4

When: Saturday 3 September 2022, Kick-off 15:00

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea hosts West Ham at Stamford Bridge in what could be a fascinating London derby.

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel’s team has made a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign. The Blues have claimed just seven points from their opening five league games, picking up just two wins in the process.

A surprise 2-1 defeat at Southampton last time out means that Chelsea have won just one of their previous four league games. The defeat on the south coast was their second loss in their last three outings in the Premier League.

Despite their underwhelming start to the new league campaign, Chelsea has at least managed to extend their unbeaten home run to six games in the Premier League. The Blues have also scored at least two goals in four of their last five home matches in the English top-flight.

Chelsea could give a debut to new signing Wesley Fofana in the heart of their defence. Fellow new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ruled out with a broken jaw. N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah could miss out through injury. Reece James is also a doubt through illness.

West Ham

The Hammers have experienced a slow start to the new Premier League campaign, picking up four points from their opening five league matches. David Moyes’s team kicked off the campaign with three straight defeats against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

However, they have taken four points from their last two league outings, beating Aston Villa 1-0 before a 1-1 home draw with Tottenham last time out.

The Hammers’ mixed form has continued from last season, as the visitors have won just two of their previous 12 games in the English top-flight.

West Ham have been great travellers of late either, winning just two of their previous ten away games in the English top-flight. In fact, they head into this game on the back of six defeats in their last eight away games in the Premier League.

The Irons have also won on just one of their previous 17 trips to Chelsea in all competitions.

West Ham are without defender Nayef Aguerd through injury, while Gianluca Scamacca, Ben Johnson and Craig Dawson are also fitness doubts. Big money signing Lucas Paqueta looks set to make his debut for the Hammers.

Conclusion

Chelsea have looked far from their best so far this season. However, they are difficult to beat on home soil. West Ham may be slowly improving after that disastrous start to the league campaign. This game could really go either way, so we are turning to the goals market for our tips.

Our first tip is for under 2.5 goals to be scored, as neither team has been prolific in recent games. The other is to back Raheem sterling to be an anytime goalscorer. The England international looks the most like of any forward from either side to find the net in this clash.

Our Tips: We are backing under 2.5 goals at odds of 11/10 and/or Raheem Sterling to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
