While they are looking strong in the race for the SPL title, the Hoops now have an uphill battle to make it into the knockout stages of the Champions League. Last time out in European football’s elite competition, the Scottish giants suffered a 3-1 loss in the reverse fixture.

The defeat means that Celtic have now failed to win in six games in the Champions League, suffering four losses in the process. The Scottish giants’ home record in the competition is not much better, as the Hoops have won just one of their previous five home matches at Celtic Park, having suffered three defeats in the run.

RB Leipzig

Die Roten Bullen are certainly a different team under Marco Rose than Domenico Tedesco. A 1-1 draw at Mainz last time out in the Bundesliga was slightly underwhelming, but it made Leipzig three unbeaten in all competitions, which was something at least.

When it comes to the Champions League, the visitors certainly needed the 3-1 win in the reverse fixture, as they had lost both their opening group matches against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk. The win at the Red Bull Arena was only Leipzig’s third victory in their last 11 games in the Champions League.

Another victory in Glasgow could put the visitors back into the group’s top two, as second-place Shakhtar face a difficult clash against reigning European champions Real Madrid in the other game in the group.

However, away wins have been hard to come by for Leipzig in European football’s elite competition of late, as they have won just two of their previous eight matches, having suffered defeat in the other six games. One of the main factors in those away defeats has been poor defensive performances, as RB Leipzig has conceded at least two goals in six of their last eight Champions League games on their travels.

Conclusion

Celtic have a poor recent record in the Champions League, even at Celtic Park. We are backing RB Leipzig to have too much quality for the Hoops and record another victory in another high-scoring encounter in Glasgow.
