Prediction and odds: Everton (13/10) vs Wolves (11/5)

We’re backing Draw/Wolves (HT/FT) at 6/1

When: Monday, 26th December 2022 – 3pm KO (GMT)

Where: Goodison Park

Everton will meet Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day as Premier League football returns after a month away.

Everton

After last season’s relegation scare, many felt as if Everton would be able to at least try and vault up the table after a solid summer transfer window – but unfortunately, that didn’t prove to be the case. They still find themselves in a tricky spot and with Frank Lampard at the helm, many are concerned that such a historic club is taking a huge gamble with its future by allowing him to stay in the job.

Everton defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 back in late October but since then, it’s been nothing but misery for this side. They drew 0-0 with Fulham which wasn’t the worst result in the world but from there, they’ve conceded nine goals and scored just one in three games. They were beaten by Leicester in the league, knocked out of the League Cup by Bournemouth and then humbled by the Cherries once again three days later.

Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers serve as one of the most recognisable clubs throughout the history of English football. Alas, after their incredible surge back to relevancy in recent years, they’ve hit a roadblock this year and they are currently bottom of the table. As a result, this clash with the Toffees is something of an early six-pointer that will be a huge test for new boss Julen Lopetegui.

With a new gaffer in charge, it’s hard to judge Wolves all too much by what they have or haven’t achieved in months gone by. Their Premier League form has been atrocious with three defeats and one draw in their last four, but in the League Cup, they’ve been able to go on a nice run to the quarter-finals with recent successes over Leeds and Gillingham setting them up for a possible Wembley berth.

Conclusion

We think this will be a fast and furious display with Everton, off the back of a lively home crowd, coming out swinging in more ways than one with a real intent to make an example of Wolves.

We do believe they’ll take the lead but with a new regime in place, everyone should expect the boys from the Black Country to fight back. We can see them drawing level before the break and then after a tense second half, they’ll find their way through to a winner late in the afternoon to take home the spoils and lift themselves off of the bottom spot.

Either way, though, this has all the potential in the world to be a barnburner of a match.

Our tips (all taken from bet365): Draw/Wolves (HT/FT) at 6/1 + over 2.5 goals at 6/5
