Prediction and odds: Everton (15/2) vs Arsenal (2/5)

We’re backing Draw/Arsenal (HT/FT) at 3/1

When: Saturday, 4th February 2023 – 12.30pm KO (GMT)

Where: Goodison Park

Everton’s push for survival continues as they prepare to take on Premier League leaders Arsenal this weekend.

Everton

There’s no doubt about it: Everton are in trouble. As a football club, they’ve fallen into their biggest slump in many, many years. They’ve made the right move when it comes to bringing Sean Dyche in but aside from that, there isn’t a whole lot to get excited about. The January window was a failure and given where they sit in the table, we’d say avoiding relegation would be one hell of an achievement this season.

After the Toffees surprisingly held Manchester City to a draw on New Year’s Eve, they’ve experienced nothing but misery. They were hit for four by Brighton to start 2023, before being knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United. A narrow defeat to Southampton soon followed and then, in what was the final straw for Frank Lampard, they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by relegation rivals West Ham.

Arsenal

In direct contrast to their Saturday lunchtime rivals, Arsenal are having a great campaign. They sit top of the Premier League table and they look pretty comfortable in doing so, knowing that they currently hold a psychological advantage over their foes. Alas, they aren’t as experienced as Manchester City when it comes to this era of title races, which is why every single point they can accumulate will be crucial.

The Gunners started the year off with a nervy 0-0 draw with Newcastle, but they did rebound pretty quickly. They soon rattled off three straight wins over Oxford, Tottenham and Manchester United, the latter of which was arguably the most important. They then came face to face with Manchester City in the FA Cup, where they were knocked out of the competition in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Conclusion

The impact that a new manager can have is clear for all to see, and we think Everton are going to really give it their all in the name of showing Dyche they deserve a place in the starting XI. They’ll start quickly and nudge themselves ahead, buoyed by what should be an excitable crowd in the blue half of Merseyside.

Before the break, though, Arsenal will show why some already see them as champions-elect. They’ll grab an equaliser and then in the second half, they’ll split Everton apart time and time again.

Eventually, they’ll get the goal that edges the into the lead. From that point they’ll control the pace of the game with Everton surging forward in search of an equaliser, only to fall short. Still, there should be positive signs to take away.

Our tips (all taken from bet365): Draw/Arsenal (HT/FT) at 3/1 + over 2.5 goals at 4/5
