According to Sky Sports, Italian club Internazionale has made contact with the agents of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric about a possible move to Italy this summer. The player reportedly would consider the move. However, Inter would have to strike an agreement with current club Real Madrid to sign the player.

Such an influential player

Luka Modric has gone from zero to hero in the Spanish capital in the five years he has played for the European champions. In his first campaign after joining from Tottenham, he was voted in the worst team of the season by a famous Spanish publication.

However, the Croatian international has grown in influence for both club and country. The 32-year-old played 43 games in all games last season for Los Blancos, as the team from the Spanish capital went on to win their third consecutive Champions League trophy.

Modric was highly influential in the centre of the Real Madrid midfield throughout the campaign. The former Tottenham star also captained his country to the World Cup final, while also picking up the Golden Ball award for best player.

His football intelligence vital

Luka Modric has always been a clever football with heightened football intelligence. During his Spurs days, he slightly lacked consistency, but in recent years, Modric has shone brightly in the centre of the park.

The fact that he is 32 years-old does not matter, as Inter are signing him to be the brains of their midfield. If could be argued that only players who had pace age badly in the football world.

I do not think it would be harsh to say that blistering pace was never really Modric’s forte. The way the midfielder plays the games means that he could probably play on for a good while yet at the top level of European football with few problems.

For an example, I would liken Modric to the great Italian metronome Andrea Pirlo, who continued playing well into his thirties. He has the same sort of football intelligence, if not an identical style of play.

Could be a good deal for Inter and Modric

Luka Modric has achieved everything he can at Real Madrid. The Croatian international has won La Liga, and as previously mentioned won the Champions League in the last three seasons. Maybe Modric would like a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Inter have pulled off some very shrewd signings this summer, including the loan signing of Modric’s international teammate Sime Vrsaljko on loan from Atletico Madrid. His fellow Croats Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic are also already at the Milan club.

A move to Inter seems like a realistic one if of course, the Nerazzurri can pull it off. If they can then it will be a massive coup, maybe it could even help the men from Milan to get closer to Serie A behemoths Juventus next season in the Italian top-flight.

This seems like a good deal around, apart from for Real Madrid who would be losing a fine central midfielder that would be hard to replace this summer.
