David Beckham’s Inter Miami are reportedly willing to offer Lionel Messi an equity stake in the club as an incentive to join in the summer.

That’s according to a recent report from the Independent, who claims Beckham is so desperate to lure the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to America that he is willing to part with a proportion of his club.

Even though Messi, 35, is understood to be in talks to renew his deal with PSG, continued failure to reach an agreement looks like it’ll lead to a surprise departure at the end of the season, and although a sensational return to Barcelona looks to be the likeliest outcome at this stage, links to the MLS have never completely disappeared.

Whether or not Beckham and the rest of Inter Miami’s hierarchy can convince the Argentine superstar to swap Europe for America remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, with this kind of offer on the table, it is certainly a unique situation.

Since leaving his boyhood club Barcelona and joining PSG 18 months ago, Messi has continued his world-beating form, scoring 29 goals and providing a further 32 assists in just 67 matches in all competitions.
