Barcelona have offered to sign Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan when his contract runs out in the summer.

The German midfielder, 32, was set to leave the Premier League champions in the summer of last year but was convinced to sign a new one-year deal after scoring two crucial goals in the final game of the season to help beat Aston Villa 3-2 in an astonishing comeback to help City clinch the title.

According to The Times, however, Gundogan’s stay at the Etihad Stadium seems to be up as Gundogan seeks one final big deal before retirement, and with City seeking reinforcements in midfield, most notably being linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. Gundogan’s representatives have already met with the Catalan giants and have been reported to have agreed on a two-year deal, with City only offering a one-year contract due to the German midfielder’s age.

Gundogan became Pep Guardiola’s first signing at Manchester City in 2016, winning four Premier League titles together, and was announced as City captain in 2021 following the departure of fellow midfielder Fernandinho.
