Atlanta United winger Luiz Araujo will sign for Brazilian club Flamengo according to reports today.

The 26-year-old Brazilian moved to the MLS as a designated player from French club Lille in 2021 and has been impressive in his two years at the club, scoring 11 goals in 57 matches.

According to The Athletic’s Luiz Araujo, the $12m signing will be moving back to Brazilian club Flamengo on a permanent deal with the Rio de Janeiro-based club now managed by ex-Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli. The fiery Argentinian led his country in the 2018 World Cup when they were knocked out by eventual winners France in the round of 16 in a 4-3 thriller.

Araujo was part of the Lille side which beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title in 2021 during a season that was played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
