Arsenal have made an opening bid for Manchester United target Jurrien Timber to Dutch giants Ajax worth around $38m.

The 22-year-old Dutch international was spotted at the FA Cup final at Wembley earlier this month which led to a lot of speculation that an announcement regarding the central defender’s move to Old Trafford would be imminent.

Jurrien Timber now favorite to move to Emirates Stadium

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Ajax are holding out for a figure closer to $60m for Timber, who has two years left on his contract in Amsterdam.

Despite questions being asked about whether Timber will be able to deal with the physical demands of the Premier League due to his relatively short statute at five foot ten inches, Timber is seen as a very composed central defender on the ball and is equally adept as a central defender in a back three, a back four, and as an orthodox right-back.
