Newcastle United are edging nearer to announcing their first signing of the summer after a deal has been struck with AC Milan for Sandro Tonali.

However, the Magpies could strengthen their midfield options further, as they remain interested in making a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher looks set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer, and he is among a number of midfield options on Newcastle’s wish list, according to Football Insider.

However, the Magpies could face complications in making their move, as Chelsea appear willing to offer the midfielder in a potential swap deal for Moises Caicedo.

Gallagher played a bit-part role for the Blues last season, as he scored three goals and registered one assist.

But, he remains a sought-after option for a number of Premier League sides after scoring eight goals in 34 games for Crystal Palace in 2021-22.

Chelsea will be looking for a fee in the region of $40 million to part ways with their academy graduate.
