Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Kai Havertz from their London rivals Chelsea for a fee of $82m.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal after manager Mikel Arteta identified the German as an essential addition to take the Gunners to the next level following their second-placed Premier League finish last season.

Just as at Stamford Bridge, Havertz will wear the number 29 shirt at Arsenal as confirmed by the club’s official social media platforms.

Speaking about his move to the Emirates Stadium the German stated, “This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things. The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that.”

Havertz’s new manager Arteta suggested the German would be deployed in a deeper role next season, saying, “He (Havertz) will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play.”

Following the completion of Havertz’s transfer, the Gunners are now likely to turn their attention to signing West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, after having a club-record bid worth over $132m accepted by the East Londoners.
