Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has emerged as a summer target for La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

The combative Dane has two years left on his contract and, at just 27 years old, is likely to command a large fee from the Champions League qualifiers.

However, new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou remains unconvinced by Hojbjerg, beginning his midfield summer revamp with the signing of Leicester City’s James Maddison earlier this week.

With Postecoglou seemingly wanting to deploy the fluid style of play that served his Celtic side so well last term, there is a concern at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that the Dane might not fit into the Australian’s free-flowing side next season.

And according to The Daily Mail’s Simon Jones, Diego Simeone’s side have shown an interest in Hojbjerg with the Argentinian’s more defensive style of football seemingly more suited to Hojbjerg’s main attribute of being able to break up the play.
