Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is set to reshuffle his midfield this summer after young star Nico Gonzalez was left at home ahead of their pre-season tour of the US.

The former club captain has informed Gonzalez his game time will be limited at Nou Camp this season and according to Fabrizio Romano, Portuguese side Porto have shown an interest in the 21-year-old.

Nico Gonzalez set for summer exit

The Spanish under-21 international spent last season on loan at La Liga strugglers Valencia but a loan move has not resulted in a permanent one after providing just one goal for Los Che from 26 appearances.

Gonzalez’s spot in the Catalans’ squad looks like it will be taken up by former Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu- whose transfer to Barca was confirmed earlier today.

Romeu returns to Barca 19 years after starting his career at the club’s La Mesia youth academy. The defensive midfielder joins the club on a three-year deal after signing from Catalan rivals Girona and has had a release clause worth close to $450m immediately entered into his contract.
