Premier League giants Liverpool have emerged as shock candidates for the signature of Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Marco Verratti.
The Parisians would reportedly be keen on cutting ties with the Italian international, who has spent the last 11 seasons in the French capital, if the right price is met.
Liverpool set to sign Marco Verratti?
According to The Guardian’s Will Unwin, Verratti is the latest candidate in a long line of potential replacements for the outgoing Fabinho- who is expected to join Al Ittihad next week- and club captain Jordan Henderson- who has agreed a move to Al Ettifaq.
Despite signing attack-minded midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer, the Reds still look a little light in midfield when protecting their back four, which at times looked vulnerable last season.
With Virgil Van Dijk not at his imperious best for the first time since joining from Southampton in January 2018, this position will be a key one to fill if Liverpool are going to improve on their fifth-placed finish from last term.
