West Ham United will step up their interest in Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse over the coming days.

The Hammers will look to wrap up the deal swiftly after growing frustrated in their pursuits of other midfield targets. West Ham are willing to use Flynn Downes in the deal to push Southampton to accept their approach, according to the Guardian.

West Ham set sights on James Ward-Prowse

The Hammers have been linked to a number of midfield options following the sale of Declan Rice. However, they have reportedly been priced out of moves for Denis Zakaria and Joao Palhinha.

Now, they look set to revert back to their original first-choice option in the midfield area, with a deal for James Ward-Prowse set to be their priority.

The England international is keen on the move following Southampton’s relegation to the second tier. The 28-year-old was a standout player for the Saints in a troubled season, as he scored nine goals and registered four assists in 38 Premier League outings in 2022-23.
