West Ham United have reportedly walked away from a deal for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

The latest reports at Sky Sports have claimed that the Hammers have ended talks over a move after being priced out of a move for the 28-year-old England international.

James Ward-Prowse move in doubt

A deal was reportedly close seven days ago, with West Ham and Southampton nearing an agreement surrounding a fee. However, the reports have claimed that the Hammers have been stunned following talks, as the Saints have increased their asking price to $45 million.

Other reports have claimed that the Hammers could be set to return with a fresh offer for the England international, with the player keen on the move to the London Stadium.

But, the Hammers are keen to not overpay for one of their top summer transfer targets. Ward-Prowse was widely expected to leave the club this summer after scoring nine goals in 38 Premier League appearances last term.

However, it is now likely that the midfielder could play a part in Southampton’s Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.
