Premier League giants Chelsea have completed the signing of Monaco and French international defender Axel Disasi.

The 25-year-old central defender has put pen to paper at Stamford Bridge on a six-year deal and arrives in England with a wealth of experience having made 130 Ligue 1 appearances and captaining his former club at times last season.

Axel Disasi joins Chelsea

Disasi has been capped four times for the France national team and was included in ex-Chelsea midfielder Didier Deschamps’ France squad for last winter’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The center-back, who can also play as a right-back if required, joins the Blues for a fee just short of $50m. Disasi’s arrival may mean the end of the road for fellow right-sided central defender Trevor Chalobah who has been linked with a move to Inter Milan this week.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley provided a joint statement regarding Disasi’s acquisition on the club’s official website which reads, “Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage. He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea.”
