Liverpool are considering a shock loan move for rival Manchester City’s out-of-favor defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips, 27, made only 12 league appearances last season for the Cityzens’ and according to talkSPORT, Jurgen Klopp still admires the player after considering making a move whilst the England international was at Leeds.

Kalvin Phillips set for Liverpool switch?

Liverpool are still looking to recruit a new defensive midfielder after suffering the losses of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League this summer. Wataru Endo’s arrival from Stuttgart on Friday will help a flimsy defensive midfield structure at Anfield but questions still linger over whether a 30-year-old will be able to compete effectively in all four competitions this season.

Phillips had planned to stay at the Etihad Stadium to fight for his first-team place with teammate Rodri- who scored City’s winner in the Champions League final in June to help complete the club’s historic treble last season.  However, the pulling power of the Reds could test Phillips’ resolve after the Anfield club shortlisted him regarding a move this month.
