Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood will not play for the Red Devils again after the club received a public backlash regarding his return to the squad.

The news was confirmed this afternoon via the club’s official website and states that United and Greenwood have mutually agreed that his future will be away from Old Trafford following the conclusion of the club’s internal investigation into his conduct.

Mason Greenwood will leave Old Trafford

Greenwood, who is under contract until 2025 at United, had been subject to an internal investigation since February after the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control.

The club went on to confirm that it would continue to support Greenwood to find a new club after United’s investigation team found Greenwood did not commit the offenses for which he was originally charged.

Despite this, the two parties have found it would be most appropriate for Greenwood to leave the club after being under suspension for the last 18 months.

In a public statement, Greenwood said, “Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me. The best decision for us all is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club.

I intend to be a better footballer, but most importantly a good father, a better person, and to use my talents in a positive way on and off the pitch.”
