Manchester City’s move for Brazilian international Lucas Paqueta is officially off after it was revealed late on Friday that the midfielder was under investigation by the English Football Association.

The 25-year-old scored the clinching goal in the Hammers’ 3-1 win over London rivals Chelsea on Sunday and has continued to show the form that convinced West Ham to smash their club record fee for the Brazilian last August.

Lucas Paqueta set to stay at West Ham

As reported by Sky Sports, Man City officials have now completely walked away from a deal after agreeing a fee of $101.8m for Paqueta last week with the Hammers.

West Ham were reportedly informed of the FA’s investigation into alleged betting breaches involving Paqueta as late as last Wednesday. As reported last Friday, the prospected transfer was set to collapse but the deal is now officially off.

Paqueta is due to be interviewed by the FA as part of their investigation into a yellow card picked up by the Brazilian during the second half of the Hammers’ 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in March.

City are now expected to look at alternative midfield options before the transfer window slams shut on September 1 whilst Paqueta denies any wrongdoing.
