Former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has taken over as the new head coach of Argentinian side Independiente.

The news was announced via the club’s official social media platforms and sees the 39-year-old take over one of Argentina’s Big Five teams for the first time.

The Red finished an extremely disappointing 24th in the Argentina Primera Division last term and Tevez will need to act quickly to transform a club that has been on the slide for several seasons.

Tevez was a highly controversial figure during his playing career in England- winning Premier League titles with both Manchester United and Manchester City during his seven years in the Premier League between 2006 and 2013.

The Argentinian became the first player in ten years to cross the divide to move from United and City- which at the time sparked huge hostility amongst Red Devils towards the one-time fan favorite.

Now a manager, Tevez has signed a one-year deal with The Red. Regarding his attempts to turn the club’s fortunes around, Tevez said in his first press conference, “First, we are going to focus on ourselves and how we want to play. Then we will think about our rivals.”
