Portuguese international midfielder Joao Palhinha has informed employers Fulham he wants to leave the club for Bayern Munich in January.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder saw a move to the Allianz Arena collapse on the European transfer deadline day after Palhinha flew to Munich to discuss terms with the Bundesliga champions.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have informed Palhinha and his agent that they will make another attempt to sign him in January when the transfer window re-opens. The Cottagers were clear to both Palhinha and Bayern that they would only authorize a transfer if they could sign a top-quality replacement.

As reported by TeamTalk, Palhinha will not spit out his dummy and refuse to play for Fulham in an attempt to push through a transfer but does expect a move to Germany to go through in January.

Since arriving from Sporting Lisbon last summer, Palhinha has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League under the stewardship of Portuguese compatriot Marco Silva. Earlier this month Palhinha’s brother and agent, Goncalo Palhinha, said, “They didn’t kill the dream, they just postponed it. Words of appreciation, recognition, and thanks to the entire Bayern structure.

The affection for the club in our family will remain forever even though my brother didn’t sign”.
