La Liga de Futbol, Priema Division or simply La Liga is the Spanish association of professional football. It’s hardly the best known in the world, though it is among the oldest in the world, clocking up and impressive 89 years.

It is over looked by the UEFA, and currently boasts some of the most talented sportsmen in the world. Though football is popular in Spain, La Liga isn’t really that well known unless there are international matches (Barcelona VS Man. United for example).

Founded in 1929 by Jose Maria Acha, his idea was to set up a league that would promote friendly rivalry between teams, thus making them train, work and play better as they improved.

Obviously over the years, the format has changed, and what we see now is completely different to what would have been 89 years ago, though the core structure remains the same. Currently Barcelona are the Champions and Real Madrid hold the title of winning the most Championships with an impressive 33 titles.
