Kevin Mirallas set to move to Fiorentina

|

According to Sky Sports, Everton forward Kevin Mirallas will join Italian club Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal, subject to the Belgian passing a medical with the club. Reports from elsewhere suggest that the Viola will have the option of purchasing the forward on a permanent basis for a fee of around £7million.

Fallen out of favour at Everton

Last season Mirallas fell out of favour with then Everton boss Ronald Koeman. The Belgian then failed to impress Sam Allardyce, who allowed the forward to return to one of his former clubs Olympiakos, where he failed to impress.

His fall from grace at Everton is not surprising, though, as the 30-year-old has been involved in a number of incidents during his time at the club. One of those incidents was when he took the ball off regular penalty kick taken Leighton Baines, only to miss the resulting spot-kick.

Another came last season when it was reported that Mirallas and French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin were involved in a spat with some of the Toffees coaching staff. Schneiderlin came out and claimed that nothing had happened. However, Mirallas failed to make an effort to dismiss the reports.

Talented with a poor attitude

There is no doubt about it Kevin Mirallas has something about him as a footballer. He does have a certain amount of ability. However, a poor attitude seems to undermine what football ability he possesses.

It is a shame really, as he could probably have achieved far more in the game with less of an ego and more work ethic. The fact that aforementioned clash with Everton staff was reportedly that he was sent home from training due to a lack of effort seems to have summed up his six-year Everton career.

Everton fans were patient with the Belgian international in the first few seasons, as he was an exciting player to watch when he actually showed up for the Toffees. The fans patience has now run out, as the forward now seems to be stealing a living on Merseyside.

Marco Silva clearing out the deadwood

For too long, there has been a group of players at Everton that has been earning high wages while doing very little to earn them. Some would say that most of the squad from last season fall into that category.

However, some of the players who struggled at times last season for the Toffees are at least showing effort, one notable performer being Spanish forward Sandro.

New Everton boss Marco Silva has now had enough time to assess his options and set about clearing the deadwood from the squad. The Portuguese boss has already sold the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ramiro Funes Mori, Davy Klaassen and Ashley Williams.

The Portuguese boss, along with director of football Marcel Brands, has a major job on their hands turning the playing staff around after a disastrous recruitment campaign last summer, with the exception of Jordan Pickford of course.

Getting rid of the likes of Mirallas and bringing in players who want to work for the team is a step in the right direction for the Merseysiders. Mirallas leaving the club was inevitable this summer.

Most Evertonian’s will just regret that he has not left on a permanent basis, as judging by his last loan spell he will be back on Merseyside next summer after underwhelming in Serie A.
