Manchester City and Tottenham prepare to clash

|

After the first weekend of Premier League action, it’s quite clear to see that we’re going to be in for a pretty intriguing (and hectic) nine months. Every single team out of the twenty showed us something different, and while many of them still have a long way to go before reaching that next level, we’d say they’re still in a pretty good position.

Now, as we look ahead to this upcoming weekend, it’s time to talk about one of the most intriguing matches of the entire month: Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur. These two teams have had many memorable encounters over the years, with arguably the best being the second leg of their Champions League knockout encounter last season. Spurs, through the skin of their teeth, were able to get the job done and knock Pep’s men out of the competition.

Battle of the Titans

Now, one of the big questions is whether or not Spurs can pull off the upset all over again. Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t quite been able to make as many additions as he probably would’ve liked over the course of the summer transfer window, but he’s still got a really strong squad capable of taking it to City.

Both teams were able to get their respective campaigns off to a winning start, but in very different ways. The champions took about twenty minutes or so to really get into their rhythm against West Ham United, but once they did, they were quite literally unstoppable. They wound up tearing through the Hammers with ruthless efficiency, finishing the day with five goals to their name and a reminder to the masses of what exactly it is they’re capable of.

Getting stronger

Spurs, on the other hand, struggled a little bit. They just couldn’t really get going, and they paid the price as Aston Villa took an early lead against the Champions League finalists in North London. It took a while but they were eventually able to peg them back, and before too long they got themselves over the finish line with two late goals that sealed the win and the three points.

Neither result indicates what’s going to happen when they clash at the Etihad, but we kind of love that. City are clearly going after the title this season, whereas nobody really knows what Tottenham’s ‘end goal’ is going to be for this campaign. They’re situated between City & Liverpool who are battling it out in the title race, whereas the rest of the top six are the ones that are expected to go toe to toe for the final Champions League slot.

But, as we all know, that’s just what people think is going to happen. The bookmakers might tell you something completely different, as would many other fans around the world.

Guardiola vs Pochettino pits two of the world’s best managers up against one another, and regardless of the result, we’re confident in saying that this will be the kind of game that you won’t want to miss.
