Serie A side Atalanta have signed West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca from under the nose of Inter Milan.

Scamacca, 24, had already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzuri on Friday but their second bid was rejected by last season’s UEFA Conference League winners after Atalanta gazumped Inter’s offer at the weekend.

The news was confirmed by the club’s official social media profiles and sees Scamacca arrive in Bergamo for a fee of $27.5m plus $5.5m in reasonably achieved add-ons.

Scamacca has received 11 caps for the Italian national team and arrives 48 hours after Rasmus Hojlund left Atalanta to join Manchester United in a transfer worth $82m. The Italian is seen as a ready-made replacement for Hojlund and returns to Serie A just 12 months after leaving for West Ham.

During the 2021-2022 campaign, Scamacca scored 16 league goals for mid-table Sassuolo which earnt him a $38m move to East London last summer.
