Chelsea set for a busy end to the summer transfer window

|

With the summer transfer window shutting for Premier League at 5 PM on Thursday, clubs up and down the country are frantically scuttling around trying to complete deals to strengthen their squads.

One club that could be very busy until Thursday’s deadline is Chelsea. Sky Sports reports that the Blues are set to make Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga the most expensive player ever in his position, as the 23-year-old looks set to complete a move to Stamford Bridge worth £71.6m.

Kepa arriving at Chelsea to replace Courtois

The Spanish international is highly-rated, in fact, he is rated as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world. The big fee reflects his big potential. Real Madrid have previously seen bids rejected for Kepa, as Athletic were keen to keep their star asset.

However, the mooted fee is a massive one for such a young player. It seems Real Madrid will be signing a new goalkeeper this summer, though, as Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois looks set to move to the Spanish capital.

The Belgian international is in the last year of his contract with the Blues and has constantly been linked with a move to Real Madrid. His agent has even revealed that Real Madrid is his preferred destination this summer. Chelsea are likely to sell the goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts, instead of losing a big asset for nothing next summer.

Kovacic offered to Chelsea

Reportedly, European champions Real Madrid have offered highly-rated Croatian international midfielder Mateo Kovacic on a season-long loan deal in an attempt to help ease through the Courtois deal.

The 24-year-old has struggled for first-team football since joining the Spanish giants back in 2015. Limited action in the Spanish capital has seen the midfielder become disillusioned at the club, so a move now seems likely. Kovacic is a highly intelligent footballer, who seems like the perfect sort of player to play Sarri’s famous brand of attacking football.

Players likely to depart too

The rumour mill has gone into full-on production in the last few hours concerning exits from Stamford Bridge. The Daily Star claims that midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko could join Italian club AC Milan in a season-long loan deal.

The former Monaco star has endured mixed fortunes at Stamford Bridge following his big-money move from Monaco last summer. The summer arrival of Jorginho and the potential arrival of Kovacic would push Bakayoko well down the central midfield pecking order.

Meanwhile, the Express claims that Everton are set to launch a loan bid for French centre-back Kurt Zouma to solve their centre-back problems. The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Stoke City, who suffered relegation.

The centre-back may struggle for first-team football with the Blues this season, so another temporary switch may be a sensible solution.

The next day and a half will be fascinating when it comes to players making moves at all Premier League clubs. Chelsea may be more active than most Premier League clubs, as the Blues look to strengthen their squad enough to challenge for the top-flight.

Who will join and leave Chelsea before tomorrow’s transfer window shuts?
