Signing Tielemans on a permanent basis a coup for Leicester

|

According to Sky Sports, Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans has travelled to the Midlands to have a medical ahead of completing a permanent move to Leicester City. The Foxes will pay a reported £40million club-record fee to Monaco to sign the midfielder. The club from the Midlands have already brought in young defender Justin Austin and Spanish forward Ayoze Perez this summer. However, Tielemans would be the biggest signing of the summer.

Tielemans shined on loan last season

Youri Tielemans arrived at Leicester on-loan from Monaco in the January transfer window. After a slow start the youngster impressed in the Premier League, scoring three goals and also producing four assists.

It was not just his goals and assists that were impressive, his all-around player in the centre of the park caught the eye. His performances should not have come as a surprise, though, as Tielemans has been a hot prospect for half a decade. His big money move to Monaco from Anderlecht did not quite work out. However, the switch to Leicester seems to have brought the best out of the midfielder.

Linked with Manchester duo

The 22-year-old’s performances last season at Leicester also reportedly caught the eye of some of England’s biggest clubs. Manchester pair City and United were both monitoring Tielemans situation this summer. With doubts over the United future of French midfielder Paul Pogba, Tielemans was reportedly considered as a possible replacement for the World Cup-winner. However, with Pogba’s position at Old Trafford is seemingly unclear.

Manchester City meanwhile have brought in central midfielder Rodri in from Atletico Madrid. Although very different players, it means that City are unlikely to invest anymore money on midfielder players this summer. Tielemans is reportedly to have stated that Leicester was his preferred destination anyway. He enjoyed his time with the Foxes and knows everybody at the Midlands club value him.

At Leicester he is likely to be a key player, at the two Manchester clubs he may well have struggled for game time. At 22-years-old, he is just at the beginning of his football career. If he is successful at Leicester, then no doubt he will move on to a more high-profile club in the future. This will benefit both parties, as the Foxes are likely to make a big profit on the midfielder, so everyone wins.

Leicester have promise ahead of new campaign

Leicester City are one of a group of teams just below last seasons top six that look capable of challenging for a European spot next season. However, the Foxes are outsiders to secure a top-six finish, with the likes of Everton and Wolves shorter odds to break the status quo in the English top-flight.

The Midlands outfit seem to be an exciting prospect under Brendan Rodgers, who is famed for his attacking style of play. Tielemans fitted into the Northern Irishman’s football philosophy perfectly last season. The midfielder will be hoping to build on his successful loan spell by helping the Foxes enjoy a strong campaign in the Premier League.

Will Youri Tielemans continue to thrive at Leicester?
