FPL Pre-season Ones to watch: Premium midfielders part one

|

The midfield area of any FPL team is crucial. Every season a number of attacking midfielders pick up serious points. Here are some of the best premium midfield options:

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool, £12.5m)

There was only one place to start within this category and that is FPL top scorer Mohamed Salah. For the two seasons, the Egyptian has played for Liverpool he has been a constant stream of FPL points. Last season the former Roma star finished as the Premier League’s joint top scorer with 22 goals, while also producing 12 assists, the same number of assists as the previous campaign.

Ironically, despite another stellar season, Salah’s price has fallen to £12.5m from £13m last season. It will take a brave FPL boss to start the season without the Egyptian, especially as the Reds host Norwich at home in the first game of Premier League campaign. Salah could be a set and forget captain option, that is how good an option he is for next season.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City, £12m)

Just like Salah, Sterling has delivered in the last few seasons and even prior to that. Last season, the winger scored 17 top-flight goals, while providing 15 assists too. His stats were also down from the previous campaign.

However, Sterling is a player who is always dangerous and also has the chance of producing big points hauls. Like Salah, he could hurt you if he is not in your team next season. Sterling is also an excellent candidate for your FPL captain, especially as City are once again favourites for the Premier League title.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool, £11.5m)

The Senegalese forward enjoyed the most productive season of his career last season, finishing level with teammate Salah in the goalscoring stakes. However, the former Saints star produced just three assists. Mane is supposedly an alternative option to Salah, just as he was last season. No doubt he is a good option for the new season. However, if it were a choice between the two, then Salah would win out.

Christian Eriksen (Tottenham, £9.5m)

Although his future with Tottenham is in doubt after rumours of a summer move to Real Madrid. However, at the minute the Danish international looks set to stay with the north London club. Eriksen has been highly consistent for much of his Spurs career when it comes to goals and assists. Last season the former Ajax star scored eight goals and produced 12 assists, in what was regarded as a relatively poor campaign.

With Heung-Min Son (£9.5M) suspended until 24th of August, Eriksen looks like the most obvious midfield pick from Spurs. However, with so many good midfield options available, it remains to be seen if Eriksen will be in many teams at the start of the season.

Paul Pogba (Manchester United, £8.5m)

The French midfielder’s future has been one of the big talking points of the summer. The World Cup-winner has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, reportedly Manchester United want to keep the mercurial midfielder. Pogba enjoyed the most productive season of his United career, as he scored 13 league goals and produced ten assists.

If he is on form, Pogba can be a fantastic asset to United and anybody’s FPL team. The problem is we just do not know if he’ll be plying his trade in Manchester next season.

Will any of the above players be in your FPL team for the new season?
