According to Goal, Dortmund have launched a £38million bid for Barcelona’s Brazilian winger Malcom. However, according to reports elsewhere, Everton, Arsenal, Napoli are interested in signing the winger.

The surprising club to emerge as favourites to sign the winger are Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg. It would be a strange move for . It remains to be seen if Malcom does make the move to Russia or Germany in the near future. However, one thing is for sure, he needs to leave Barcelona this summer.

Too much competition at Barcelona

Last season Malcom struggled for game time for the Blaugrana. In fact, he made just 16 appearances in the Spanish top-flight, of which just six were starts. In his limited appearances he scored just once and produced two assists. The stats are not great, but his lack of minutes explains those stats.

The fact that Barcelona have signed Antoine Griezmann and are looking to re-sign Malcom’s compatriot Neymar will see the winger’s game cut down even further. It seems simple he has to move elsewhere for regular football next season.

A move to Barcelona was a mistake

Last summer Malcom the 22-year-old was hot property. Serie A outfit Roma and Premier League Everton were both linked with big-money moves for the winger. In fact, reportedly Malcom was on his way to Italy to join, only for Barcelona to nip in and sign the winger.

The move to Catalonia was too good to turn down for most players. The club seems to hold a special relationship with South American players, who tend to see Barcelona and Real Madrid as the pinnacle of the game, like most players supposedly.

However, when Malcom made the move to the Spanish champions, he must have known that his chances in the starting line-up with the attacking players at the disposal of boss Ernesto Valverde. He was just 21 when he made the move after a promising couple of seasons at Bordeaux.

He would maybe have been better moving to a Roma or an Everton. Both would have likely offered him first-team football, which would help him develop his game. A few years spent playing regular football in a top league would have benefitted him more than sitting on the Barcelona bench, even if he does get to train and occasionally play with the great Lionel Messi.

Destination unknown for Malcom

At the moment, it is hard to know where Malcom will be plying his trade next season. It could be any of the clubs mentioned in numerous media reports all over European this summer.

The winger will certainly not be short of offers, as he has bags of talent. His talent and promise are wasted on the Barcelona bench. It seems highly doubtful that Malcom will still be with Barcelona next season.

However, it seems inevitable that wherever he is playing his football next season, he will enjoy a more fruitful campaign than he did with the Catalan club last season. Who knows, he may reappear at Barcelona in three- or four years’ time as an even better player.

Where will Malcom be playing his football next season?
